Currently obsessed with my latest spirit find, Sotol (made from the plant of the same name in Mexico), which is kind of like a cross between mezcal & tequila, and makes perfect drinks🙌🏻


To make this delicious margarita-style cocktail, I added to a shaker with ice 2 oz sotol (using the fairly & sustainably produced blanco sotol from Double Filo, which I found on my latest escapade at Total Wine 😜), 1 oz lime juice, 1/2 oz blood orange juice, 1/2 oz simple syrup or agave (I made my own simple syrup using Swerve to make it sugar free), 1/4-1/2 oz beet juice (depending on taste preference), 1 pinch of salt (optional) and a good dash of ginger bitters (optional—I used Hella). If you want a spicy or smoky version you can replace the ginger bitters with Scrappy’s firewater tincture or Hella’s smoky chili bitters). Shake for 10 seconds, strain over ice, and garnish with lime or blood orange 🍊


To make this non-alcoholic replace the Sotol with Seedlip Grove 42, leave out the bitters & use smoky salt instead of regular salt 🍹
